미셸 위는 9일 오전 서울 소공동 롯데백화점 본점에서 열린 '난치병 어린이 돕기 사랑의 바자회' 행사에 참석해 난치병 어린이, 팬들과 함께 뜻 깊은 시간을 가졌다.
오전 11시 30분부터 진행된 행사에서 미셸 위는 난치병 어린이들과 함께 쇼핑을 한 후 팬사인회장으로 이동해 팬사인회에 참석했다.
롯데백화점 7층 나이키매장에서 시종일관 미소를 띄우며 어린이들의 쇼핑을 도와줬던 미셸 위는 1층 팬사인회에서 팬들에게 사인을 해주고 사진을 함께 찍으며 만남의 시간을 가졌다.
일본일 팬들도 여럿 참석해 미셸 위의 국제적인 인기를 실감케 했다. 한 일본인 여성팬은 미셸 위의 사인을 들고 기쁨을 감추지 못하는 모습을 보이기도 했다.
미셸 위의 아버지 위병욱씨는 "2006년에 기부했는데 그 기부금으로 병이 나은 친구들이 많이 있었다. 그래서 또 다시 자선행사를 열게 됐다"고 밝혔다.
전날 한국에 도착한 미셸 위는 오는 15일부터는 17일까지 제주 스카이힐CC에서 열리는 'KLPGA 롯데마트 여자오픈'에 출전한다.
2006년 남자대회인 SK텔레콤오픈에 참가한 이후 3년만에 국내 대회에 참가하는 미셸 위는 국내 여자 대회에 처음으로 나서게 된다.
가족들과 모두 함께 한국에 왔다고 설명한 위병욱씨는 "미셸 위가 오랜만에 한국대회에 참가해 많이 들떠있다. 그러나 대회보다 자선 바자회 등 뜻 깊은 활동에 중점을 두고 한국에 온 것"이라고 전했다.
이어 그는 "미셸 위에게 사회 공헌에 대해 많이 강조했다. 미국에서도 여러 기부 활동을 하고 있다"고 말했다.
한편, 이날 행사에서는 미셸 위가 사용했던 드라이버, 티셔츠, 모자 등에 직접 사인을 해 내놓은 물품에 대한 경매도 함께 이뤄졌다. 경매를 통해 얻어진 수익금은 난치병 어린이들을 돕기 위해 사용된다.

Before the fund delivery ceremony, Michelle Wie met with the short statured patients and presented them with back packs and shoes. She was greeted especially warmly by the patients who were treated with her last donation of 150,000,000 won in 2006. Michelle Wie Player said "I was surprisedby how much bigger the small children were compared to 3 years ago. I am happy that they seem much more confident." She also commented, "I received all the letters that my friends sent me and I was happy to see them again. The stuffed animal that I received from a patient is on my golf bag but it is now worn out because it has been 3 years. I hope that I am of some help to the patient’s treatments."
Oh Dong Ju, Korea University Medical Director, commented "Michelle Wie’s help does not simply end at providing medical expenses. Her donation will go a long ways to allow the short statured patients to lead more confident lives."He also wished her the best of luck in her future games and asked for continued support.
